Head Coach Rich Carlisle returns to the Mavericks Bench as the Head Coach for his 2nd season after leading the Mavs to the NBA conference semi-finals against the Denver Nuggets who dispatched the team in 5 games.

The Mavericks have resigned veteran Point Guard Jason Kidd to three more years and while the fans may howl at the 36 year olds signing, owner Mark Cuban may just have more up his sleeve with a possible trade of Kidd to help make his team get a little younger with PF Dirk Nowitzki turning 32 by the time the 2009/10 season rolls around and 5 other players on the roster with over 10 years in the league.

With the Spurs and the Lakers greatly upgrading their rosters, the Mavericks are still making some moves.  During the draft, Dallas traded their 22nd overall pick to Portland for the 24th pick and a second round pick in and another 2nd round pick in 2010.  The Mavs ended up with French Point Guard Rodrigue Beaubois and a future 2nd round pick, Guard Nick Calathes and 6-9 Fwd Ahmad Nivins.  Time will tell if the moves prove fruitful.

The Dallas Mavericks took steps to try and get past the second round of the 2009/10 NBA Playoffs and they began by resigning an integral part of their team, point guard Jason Kidd. The Mav’s ponied up a 3-year deal worth an undisclosed amount. The rest of the off season was spent in search of the pieces that would help team owner Mark Cuban get the most out of his team. “I promise you Dirk’s numbers will drop this year,” the owner said at the beginning of training camp. He is hoping that the acquisitions of Shawn Marion and Drew Gooden along with the scoring that J.J. Barea and Jason Terry provide may just help take some of the pressure off of Dirk .

Coach Carlisle, in his second season as the Mavericks Head Man will look to the leadership of both Kidd and Nowitzki to guide the team through a much improved and tougher Western Conference.

The Dallas Mavericks find themselves in a real Western Shootout with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2009 Western Semi finals against the Denver Nuggets.  The Mavericks eliminated the San Antonio Spurs to advance but have found themselves down two games and facing elimination.  Get your Maverick Tickets now and cheer your Mavericks on to victory

With the number 51 pick in the 2008 NBA draft, the Dallas Mavericks selected guard/forward Shan Foster from Vanderbilt University. The Mavericks have also acquired 2-time NBA Champ Tyronn Lue in addition to relieving Avery Johnson of his coaching duties to be replaced by Rick Carlisle. Despite winning the Coach of the Year Award in 2006, Avery Johnson couldn't provide the NBA Championship that the Mavs have long coveted but never won, which resulted in his dismissal. With a new head coach and high expectations, ticket sales for the Dallas Mavericks are increasing as the 2008-2009 season gets underway.

The Dallas Mavericks were created in 1980 as an NBA expansion team to fill the void in Dallas left after the Dallas Chaparrals moved to San Antonio in 1973 to eventually become the San Antonio Spurs. The "Mavericks" name was chosen in a write-in contest by fans, although "Wranglers" and "Express" were also highly considered options. In ironic payback fashion, the Mavericks would upset the San Antonio Spurs in their first game in the NBA. In their relatively short franchise history, the Mavericks have had the success of playing several great players such as Hall of Fame forward Adrian Dantley, 2007 MVP forward Dirk Nowitzki, and All-Star point guards Jason Kidd and Steve Nash. The Dallas Mavericks' illustrious franchise accomplishments include fourteen playoff appearances, two division titles, one conference title, and one NBA Championship appearance. Although starting their franchise play at Reunion Arena, the Dallas Mavericks currently play at the American Airlines Center, where ticket sales have been high since the move in 2001.
